Consultant psychiatrist specialising in general adult mental health and substance misuse.

I work across Kent, East Sussex and London, and with all the major healthcare insurers, as well as self funding patients.

About me

I qualified as a doctor from Bristol University in 1989. I trained in psychiatry working in Slough and in rotations as part of the Charing Cross and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals training schemes. As a consultant I then worked for Oxleas in Penge and Bromley before moving to Guildford, where I worked in the Psychiatric Intensive Care unit, outpatient forensics and general adult psychiatry.

In 2009 I started to work privately to be able to offer patients the level of care that I believe they need and since then have built a busy practice.

What to expect

I understand that visiting a psychiatrist for the first time can be a daunting experience so want to outline what to expect.

Our initial consultation will last 1.5 hours. In this I will discuss your issues and symptoms, find out about your life experiences, your family background and look at your physical health, all of which may have a bearing on your current situation.

I aim to give a diagnosis as soon as possible, most often after the first consultation, although in some cases a follow up appointment may be required to complete the assessment.

At this point I discuss treatment options, with the majority of patients being treated on an outpatient basis. I may prescribe medication, refer you to specialist therapies or in certain cases recommend treatment in hospital as an inpatient.

The initial consultation is usually followed by regular follow up consultations with me over the course of several weeks or months, depending on the nature and severity of the issues, where I can monitor and manage your medication and progress.

I will provide a comprehensive written report after our initial meeting (usually within 7 days) and letters after each follow up consultation. It is important that I keep your GP updated with your treatment, in particular if I am prescribing medication in case it interacts with any medication they may wish to prescribe for you. If you do not want some of the personal information in my initial report to be shared with your GP, please just let me know when we send it to you.

ADHD – please note that the assessment process for ADHD can be more complex, please do ask us for more information if you think this might affect you.

I can admit patients for inpatient treatment at both the Priory Hospital Hayes Grove and the Priory Hospital Ticehurst House.
